Several state sector and provincial public service trade unions plan to launch a protest campaign across the entire island tomorrow (26 Nov.).
The coordinator of the trade union collective, Chandana Sooriyarachchi, announced that the protest would begin at 12.00 noon.
The main demands of the protest include a wage increase of Rs. 20,000 and enhanced allowances starting from January 2024.
Furthermore, the trade unions are advocating for the restoration of pension entitlements for those who joined the state sector in 2016 and later. Sooriyarachchi cautioned that if the government does not respond positively to their demands, a series of further trade union actions will be initiated.
