The permit system previously required for importing wheat flour has been abolished as of midnight yesterday, State Minister for Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya announced.
Siyambalapitiya stated during a media briefing in Ruwanwella this morning that the tax on imported wheat flour will be raised from Rs. 16 to Rs. 27 per kg, and an additional tax of Rs. 6 will be imposed on wheat kernels.
However, he assured that despite these changes, there will be no increase in the price of wheat flour. The primary goal of implementing these measures is to enforce import controls on wheat flour, the State Minister explained.
