A container truck transporting a consignment of soft drinks from the Horana Industrial Estate to the Colombo Port overturned near Gonapola Junction on the Horana–Colombo Road, obstructing one lane of the road.
The accident occurred a few metres after the truck had passed Gonapola Junction while travelling towards Colombo. According to reports, the driver appears to have taken a bend at high speed, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into the central median.
The overturned truck also damaged three flower pots that had been placed along the median as part of the road's beautification efforts.
Following the accident, one lane of the road was blocked, causing disruption to traffic in the area.
Reports indicate that only the driver was inside the container truck at the time of the accident. No information was immediately available regarding any injuries.
Authorities are expected to take steps to clear the overturned vehicle and restore normal traffic flow.
