The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has given approval to simplify the visa procedures carried out by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Currently, the department issues three categories of visas: visit visas, resident visas, and transit visas, in accordance with the Immigration and Emigration Act No. 20 of 1948 and its associated regulations.
Recognizing the complexity of the visit visa and resident visa categories, the government has taken steps to review the current visa methodology by studying the visa procedures implemented in countries that attract a large number of foreign visitors.
As a result, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal put forward by the Minister of Public Security to further simplify the visa procedures currently in place in the country. This move aims to streamline the visa application process and make it more efficient for both visitors and the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
