New overseas employment opportunities have opened up for Sri Lankan workers in Japan, South Korea, Israel and several Middle Eastern countries, with recruitment already underway across a wide range of sectors.
Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency Chairman Lal Hettiarachchi said opportunities are available in construction, skilled and technical trades, healthcare, IT, engineering, transport, agriculture and garment manufacturing, among other fields.
The programme is open to skilled, semi-skilled and professional workers, while applications are being accepted at relatively low costs.
In a major opportunity for young job seekers, school leavers can also apply for truck-driving jobs in Japan, provided they meet the required Japanese-language proficiency standards.
Hettiarachchi made the announcement at a media briefing held at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, saying the initiative is aimed at expanding Sri Lanka’s presence in international labour markets and creating more opportunities for skilled workers to secure overseas employment.
Job seekers can obtain details and submit applications through the agency’s website, www.slfea.lk.
The agency has also launched an air-ticket sales centre to help Sri Lankan workers travelling abroad for employment purchase tickets at rates lower than prevailing market prices.
