A fire broke out at a storage facility containing scrap materials at the Embilipitiya Paper Mill this afternoon, prompting a joint firefighting operation involving several agencies.
The blaze erupted at around 3.20 p.m. in an area where scrap materials brought into the paper mill were being stored.
Firefighting teams from the paper mill, supported by personnel from the Sri Lanka Army, Police, Embilipitiya Urban Council and Sevanagala Sugar Factory, responded to the incident.
The coordinated operation successfully brought the fire under control and prevented the flames from spreading to other sections of the premises.
No further details regarding the extent of the damage or injuries have been reported so far.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and further investigations are expected to determine how the blaze started.
