A group of 200 Japanese tourists departed for Sri Lanka on Sunday aboard a single SriLankan Airlines flight, in a major boost to tourism ties between the two countries.
The group, organized by the Little Japan Group, departed Narita International Airport on SriLankan Airlines flight UL455.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Japan, Prof. Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe, and First Secretary (Commerce) Sandun Sameera met the tourists at the airport before their departure.
During their visit, the tourists are expected to explore several major attractions, including Sigiriya, while experiencing traditional Ayurveda treatments and wellness services.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan said it provided support, guidance and facilitation for the group’s visit.
Ambassador Kumarasinghe described the arrival of 200 Japanese tourists on a single flight as one of the largest organized groups of Japanese visitors travelling to Sri Lanka together.
He said growing interest among Japanese travellers, together with continued efforts by Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and other stakeholders, could further strengthen tourism exchanges between the two countries.
The Ambassador also expressed hope that increased arrivals from Japan would help Sri Lanka reach and surpass its previous tourist arrival records.
