The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of increased sea wave heights in several coastal areas of Sri Lanka.

According to the department, sea waves are expected to rise in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Pottuvil, via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

The advisory states that wave heights could increase to between 2 and 3 metres.

The department has also warned that there is a possibility of waves reaching the shore in areas stretching from Beruwala to Galle and Matara.

The Meteorology Department has urged fishing and naval communities operating in the affected sea areas, as well as residents living along the coastline, to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing conditions.
