The Department of Meteorology has warned of strong winds and rough seas in several coastal areas of Sri Lanka.

Wind speeds in the sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar, as well as from Hambantota to Pottuvil, may increase to between 50 and 60 kilometres per hour, according to the department.

Meanwhile, sea waves in the areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara could rise to between 2 and 2.5 metres.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the fishing and naval communities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions while operating in these sea areas.
