The government has not yet considered a proposal to raise the minimum age for driving three-wheelers to 40, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today (25).
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing at the Department of Government Information, Minister Jayatissa said the government had received various proposals from individuals and institutions on providing vocational education and training to people who had left school before completing their education or after sitting for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.
His comments followed a recent statement by Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalinda Hewage that the government was considering increasing the minimum age for three-wheeler drivers to 40.
Minister Jayatissa said some proposals related to vocational training were already being implemented, while others remained under discussion.
He stressed that the proposal to raise the minimum age for three-wheeler drivers had not yet been considered by the government and that no decision had been taken on a specific age limit.
“The government will make the final decision on what should be implemented,” he said.
