Police have announced a special security and traffic management plan for the annual historic Kandy Esala Perahera, which is scheduled to be held from August 18 to 27.
The Kumbal Perahera will take to the streets from August 18 to 22, followed by the Randoli Perahera from August 23 to 27.
According to Police, the special arrangements will cover the entire duration of the procession and include security duties at roadblocks, inspections of vehicles and individuals, guidance for tourists, and designated traffic and parking arrangements.
A total of 6,200 police officers will be deployed for security duties during the Perahera, along with 564 officers from the Police Special Task Force (STF), 1,200 personnel from the three armed forces, and 29 Civil Security personnel.
Police sniffer dogs will also be deployed as part of the security arrangements.
Police further stated that security will be strengthened at 14 entry points into Kandy city, with roadblocks and security checks being implemented throughout the period of the Dalada Perahera.
The authorities have urged the public and visitors to cooperate with security personnel and follow the traffic arrangements introduced during the Perahera period.
