Sri Lanka has strengthened its presence in the Middle Eastern tea market with the launch of Bogawantalawa Tea at Tamimi Markets, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading hypermarket chains.

Sri Lanka has strengthened its presence in the Middle Eastern tea market with the launch of Bogawantalawa Tea at Tamimi Markets, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading hypermarket chains.

According to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh, the launch ceremony was held in Riyadh under the patronage of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad. The event marked another step in promoting premium Ceylon Tea in one of Sri Lanka’s key export markets.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Ajwad noted that Saudi Arabia remains one of the most important destinations for Ceylon Tea exports and said the introduction of Bogawantalawa Tea would further strengthen the country’s premium tea presence in the Kingdom. He also thanked Tamimi Markets for providing a platform to showcase Sri Lankan tea and proposed establishing a dedicated “Sri Lanka Corner” to promote premium Sri Lankan products.

The Ambassador further highlighted the steady growth of Sri Lankan exports to Saudi Arabia in recent years and stressed the importance of expanding the country’s export portfolio in the Saudi market.

Co-Chairman of Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon, Lalith Kumar Ambani, introduced the Ceylon Tea Gardens brand, describing Bogawantalawa Tea as a premium product recognized worldwide for its quality, distinctive flavour, freshness and more than a century of heritage.

Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon, Almas Marikkar, outlined the company’s diverse product range and its commitment to supporting estate communities through various corporate social responsibility initiatives. Marketing Manager for the Middle East and Asia, Anne Ranasinghe, also presented the history and heritage of the Bogawantalawa Tea brand.

Senior officials of Tamimi Markets, including Regional Senior Manager Ayham Nasser, Business Development Director Bruce Bostwick and Category Manager Husnee Thasim, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to offering customers high-quality international products.

Officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy and representatives of Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon also attended the launch event.
