Ryanair has responded to allegations made by former Sri Lanka cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara over an incident at Dublin Airport on October 28, claiming he initially refused to provide the required visa documentation during mandatory immigration checks.
The airline said the checks were subsequently completed, Sangakkara’s eligibility to travel was verified, and he boarded his scheduled flight to Bristol.
However, its statement did not directly address Sangakkara’s allegations that gate staff made racist remarks, treated his family unfairly and threatened to deny them boarding.
Sangakkara alleged that staff told him passengers holding passports like his should expect such treatment. He described the alleged remarks as racist and criticised the way his family was treated.
The allegations have drawn widespread attention on social media. Ryanair has not publicly addressed the specific racism allegations in the statements reviewed, and the claims have not been independently verified.
