According to the report, Sri Lanka earned its place in the ranking due to its ability to provide high-quality healthcare services at affordable prices, supported by skilled specialist doctors and internationally recognized Ayurvedic traditions. The country offers a unique healthcare experience that integrates advanced medical treatments with holistic wellness and recovery options.

The report specifically recognized Sri Lanka’s strengths in several key medical fields, including cardiology, orthopaedics, oncology, fertility treatment, and dental and cosmetic surgery. These specialties have contributed significantly to the country’s growing appeal among international patients seeking quality treatment and value for money.

TTW noted that today’s medical tourists are looking beyond low treatment costs and increasingly prioritize clinical excellence, transparency, patient safety, and comfortable recovery environments. Sri Lanka’s healthcare infrastructure, combined with its wellness heritage and natural attractions, has helped position the country as an emerging player in the global medical tourism market.

In the 2026 rankings, Turkey secured the top position, followed by Thailand, India, Mexico, and South Korea. The United Kingdom was ranked 21st.

Although Sri Lanka was placed 49th overall, the ranking reinforces its status as a rising destination for medical and wellness tourism in South Asia. Industry experts believe the recognition could help attract more international patients and further strengthen the country’s position in the rapidly growing global medical tourism sector.
