The President addressed Parliament during the debate, stressing the need to take firm action against corruption, organised criminal networks, drug traffickers, crime, and the involvement of politics in criminal activities.
President Dissanayake said that Sri Lanka has established legal frameworks and state institutions to address these issues, but alleged that the opposition has now become the main accused party in relation to such matters.
He further stated that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director, Deputy Inspector General Shani Abeysekara, has played a significant role in combating crime, but claimed that he has now become a target of the opposition.
The President also said that Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Ranga Dissanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Ananda Wijepala, Dileepa Peiris representing the Attorney General’s Department, and even the judiciary have also become targets of opposition criticism.
