The Department of Meteorology has issued a red warning for strong winds and rough seas in the deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal, particularly for multi-day fishing vessels operating in the region.
The warning, issued at 12.30 p.m. today (01), will remain valid for the next 24 hours.
According to the Department, the depression over the southeastern Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression by 5.30 a.m. today and was centred near 11.5°N latitude and 86.4°E longitude.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards, intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast around 5.30 a.m. on November 3.
Wind speeds in the sea areas marked under the "Warning" category on the issued map may occasionally increase to 70–80 kmph, accompanied by heavy thundershowers, making sea conditions very rough.
Accordingly, the Department has advised fishing and naval communities to refrain from operating in the sea areas between 10°N and 15°N latitudes and 80°E and 90°E longitudes until further notice.
Those already operating in these areas have also been urged to move towards safer locations.
