Several flights scheduled to land at Bandaranaike International Airport were diverted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport due to adverse weather conditions affecting operations in the Katunayake area.

Aviation sources reported that heavy rainfall and reduced visibility around the airport led to disruptions in landing procedures.

As a result, around six incoming aircraft were redirected to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport as a precautionary safety measure.

Authorities said the diversions were carried out to ensure safe landing operations amid continuing unstable weather conditions in the region.
