In a public advisory, the Commission stressed the importance of using properly rated electrical plugs, including straight-through satin-finish plugs, when setting up Vesak lighting systems.
The PUCSL also warned the public against using multi-plug adapters, noting that such devices are not permitted under safety regulations due to the risk of electrical accidents.
Consumers were further advised to ensure that Residual Current Devices (RCDs), commonly known as trip switches, are functioning correctly with a sensitivity level of 30mA (0.03A). The Commission recommended regularly checking the device using the “T” (Test) button.
The advisory also cautioned against bypassing the trip switch while installing festival lighting, emphasising that it acts as the primary safeguard against electrocution.
In addition, the Commission urged the public to inspect all electrical wires and ensure they are not damaged before use.
The safety notice was issued as part of efforts to ensure an accident-free Vesak celebration across the country.
