The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism and focused on expanding cooperation between the SCO and its partner countries in sectors including tourism, transport and logistics, and agriculture.
The visit marks the first official visit to Sri Lanka by a Secretary-General of the SCO and is expected to contribute towards strengthening Sri Lanka’s engagement with the organization.
During the discussions, Minister Herath expressed Sri Lanka’s strong interest in participating in SCO initiatives and sought the Secretary-General’s support in promoting Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for investment and tourism.
As part of the visit, Secretary-General Yermekbayev also held discussions with Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lal Kantha, and Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasingha.
