The Railway Department will carry out essential maintenance at the crossing located at 02 Chain 17 between Baseline and Narahenpita railway stations. As a result, the crossing will be fully closed to vehicular traffic from 09.30 a.m. on 23 May 2026 (Saturday) until 07.30 a.m. on 24 May 2026 (Sunday).
During the 22-hour work period, train operations between Colombo Fort and Narahenpita stations will be suspended, affecting regular commuter movement along the line. Limited alternative services will operate between Narahenpita and Avissawella in the evening of 23 May, while early morning services from Avissawella to Colombo Fort will resume on 24 May with scheduled slow trains.
Railway authorities said the temporary restrictions are necessary to ensure the safety and long-term reliability of the crossing and urged the public to use alternative routes where possible. They also apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and road users.
