Director General of Health Services Asela Gunarathna said the designation highlights the growing international recognition of Sri Lanka’s contribution to infectious disease research and healthcare.
He noted that until now, such a joint international research and training centre had only been located in Thailand, and since it is currently not in operation, the Angoda-based institute has gained significant global importance in the field of dengue research and training.
Dr. Gunarathna said the recognition is expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s role in international collaboration, research and capacity building related to dengue prevention and treatment.
