The group had been detained at the Welisara Detention Centre after being taken into custody for overstaying and conducting unlawful operations. Officials confirmed that the deportees included six women.
To facilitate their return, a team of 11 Chinese security officers arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The group was deported on the night of May 4 at approximately 10:50 p.m. aboard a China Eastern Airlines passenger flight (MU-714), bound for Kunming, China.
