Emergency services were called across Nara and Osaka today (Saturday) after a major quake rocked Japan at around 6.28pm. Residents reported feeling noticeable tremors and shaking across the Kansai region.

The event had its epicentre in Nara Prefecture with a seismic intensity 4, felt in Mie, Nara and Wakayama prefectures as well as Osaka, officials said.

The quake originated at a depth of about 70km in Nara Prefecture according to initial reports. No tsunami warning was issued.
