The Cabinet has approved granting permanent appointments to nearly 9,800 individuals currently employed in state institutions on temporary, casual, substitute, contract, or relief basis.
The relevant joint Cabinet paper was submitted by Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, together with the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
The decision is expected to regularize the employment status of thousands of workers serving in various government institutions under non-permanent arrangements.
