The accident reportedly occurred due to a sudden mechanical failure in the bus’s braking system. In an attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver steered it into an embankment along the main road.
All injured students were rushed to the Bogawantalawa Regional Hospital, while four of them were later transferred to the Dickoya Base Hospital for further treatment.
Hospital authorities stated that the condition of the remaining students receiving treatment at the Bogawantalawa hospital is not serious.
Bogawantalawa Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
