Reportedly, the multi-day fishing trawler 'Hasitha Putha 4' (IMUL-A-0808 GLE) had set sail from the Tangalle Fisheries Harbour. While engaged in fishing activities approximately 45 nautical miles off the south coast, one of the crew members suffered a serious bone fracture in his arm.
Following a formal request for assistance from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, through the MRCC Colombo, the Navy sprang into action to facilitate the retrieval. In a rapid response, the Navy dispatched a craft attached to the Southern Naval Command to the designated sea area.
Upon transferring the injured fisherman from the fishing trawler, naval personnel provided essential first aid to the casualty before swiftly bringing him to the Hambantota Port. Ensuring the patient received the necessary specialized care without delay, the Navy safely transferred the fisherman to the Hambantota District General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Navy remains alert to such emergencies affecting the fishing and naval communities, in close coordination with MRCC Colombo.
