The officer revealed that “Aloka the Peace Dog,” accompanying the march from Dambulla, fell ill and required treatment following heavy congestion and disturbances along the route yesterday.
He noted that large crowds, including media personnel and bystanders attempting to take selfies, photos, and videos with the dog and participating monks, had caused delays and logistical challenges.
Authorities were compelled to step in to manage the situation, he added, noting that both the Presidential Secretary and the police chief had contacted him twice via group calls regarding the issue.
The ‘Walk for Peace’ began in Dambulla under the leadership of Ven. Pannakara Thero, together with members of the Maha Sangha and the Peace dog.
The procession concluded its leg in Matale yesterday and resumed its journey this morning (23), with plans to reach the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic by this afternoon.
