During the conversation, Araghchi expressed appreciation for the Sri Lankan government’s assistance in the rescue operation involving the crew of the IRIS Dena, as well as for facilitating the repatriation of the bodies of its sailors and other Iranian naval personnel to Iran, according to the Iranian Embassy in Sri Lanka.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also outlined what he described as actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, characterising the attack on the IRIS Dena as an “unprecedented war crime.” He stated that Iran would not forget the incident, which he said constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the 1949 Geneva Conventions, and emphasized that Iran would pursue all legal and political avenues to hold those responsible accountable.

Both ministers also held discussions on bilateral relations and recent regional developments, the embassy said in a statement.
