The bus, which was operating a public transport service from Trincomalee to Mutur, met with the accident while traveling toward its destination. According to initial reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the bus and collide with a tree.

Emergency responders and residents acted swiftly to assist those injured, transporting them to nearby medical facilities. The injured passengers were admitted to the Trincomalee District General Hospital and the Mutur Base Hospital for treatment.

Hospital sources confirmed that nearly 20 individuals were initially admitted to the Mutur Base Hospital, with four of them reported to have sustained serious injuries. The remaining victims are said to be in stable condition and receiving medical care.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Police suspect that factors such as speeding or driver fatigue may have contributed, though inquiries are ongoing.
