Fr. Fernando, a former Media Spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Colombo, had been serving as Vice Chancellor since 2023. During his tenure, he made a notable contribution to the advancement of Catholic education.
He was also a writer for the publications Gnanartha Pradeepaya and The Messenger. In the field of education, he held key positions including Deputy Principal of St. Peter’s College, Colombo, and Principal of Holy Cross College, Kalutara.
Fr. Fernando pursued his higher education at the Urbaniana University in Rome. Internationally, he served as the Executive Secretary of the Asian Bishops’ Conference Office for Evangelization in 2016.
His remains have been placed at St. Mary’s Church, Payagala, Kalutara, from the afternoon of April 21. Final rites are scheduled to be held on April 22 under the patronage of the Archbishop.
