According to police, the suspect created a fraudulent website designed to closely resemble the official platform of a private bank, with the intention of deceiving users into entering sensitive financial information. The scam led to the misappropriation of Rs. 1,000,024.
Investigations were initiated following a complaint lodged on February 16, 2026. The victim reported unauthorized transactions after being misled by the fake website.
After weeks of investigation, officers arrested the suspect on Monday. He has been identified as a resident of Minuwangoda.
Following his arrest, the suspect was handed over to the Wariyapola Police Station and is scheduled to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today.
