He stated that the recent surge in fuel purchases by the public, driven by fears of a potential shortage, had a significant impact on the latest fuel price increase.
According to Rajakaruna, if the excessive buying had not occurred, it would have been possible to maintain the previous fuel prices until the end of the month.
He further said that the current fuel crisis is affecting countries worldwide and stressed the importance of collective action, urging the public to limit fuel usage to avoid serious risks in the future.
