Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, the minister said Sri Lanka would follow the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and other international legal frameworks in handling the matter.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the United States has requested Sri Lanka not to send back the Iranian sailors rescued after the incident, through a diplomatic cable.
According to reports, the warship was sunk by a US submarine in the Indian Ocean about 19 nautical miles off the coast of Galle on Wednesday (04).
A large number of sailors were killed in the incident, while 32 survivors were brought ashore with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy.
