The detection was made by officers attached to the Laksiri Seva (UPB) Warehouse during an examination of ten gift parcels addressed to four Sri Lankan residents in Colombo 10, 14 and 15.
During the inspection carried out on March 4, 2026, Customs officers discovered approximately 51.07 kilograms of hashish hidden inside assorted food packages. The hashish is estimated to have a street value of about Rs. 510.7 million.
Officers also recovered 1.07 kilograms of ICE (crystal methamphetamine) valued at around Rs. 25.4 million. The total estimated value of the seized narcotics amounts to approximately Rs. 536.1 million.
Customs officials said the detection was made due to the vigilance of officers stationed at the Laksiri Seva UPB Warehouse.
Following preliminary investigations, the seized narcotics and related materials were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations and legal action.
Authorities said the seizure highlights ongoing efforts by Customs to prevent the smuggling of illegal drugs into the country.
