A special military team has been deployed to locate Agbo, following discussions between the Environment Minister and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence aimed at expediting the search operation.

The operation is being carried out to identify Agbo’s whereabouts and ensure his safety.

Agbo, a well-known wild tusker frequently seen in the Thirappane area of Anuradhapura, attracted nationwide attention in 2023 after sustaining a serious gunshot injury to his left front leg.

The elephant became a subject of widespread public concern following the incident, with attention focused on his treatment and recovery.

Taking into consideration the importance of protecting Sri Lanka’s wild elephant population, the relevant authorities are working in coordination with other government institutions to locate the elephant and take necessary measures to safeguard him.
