Police have formally served and read out a court order to Buddhist monks staging a protest outside the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, demanding the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero.

The order was issued by the Fort Magistrate’s Court following a request by police to prevent the demonstration from taking place in front of the Presidential Secretariat, which is designated as a high-security zone.

Police had sought a court order prohibiting the protest in the area.

Meanwhile, Buddhist monks and their supporters participating in the “Justice for the Robe National Pledge Offering and Freedom March” continue to occupy the road outside the Presidential Secretariat.

The march, organized under the leadership of the Maha Sangha, is calling for the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero.
