Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today ordered the release on bail of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to an Airbus deal.
The Magistrate ordered Rajapaksa to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 500,000, along with two sureties of Rs. 100 million each.
The court further directed the two sureties to submit certificates issued by their respective Grama Niladharis.
The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on Rajapaksa as part of the bail conditions.
The court warned that the bail could be cancelled if Rajapaksa attempts to influence or intimidate witnesses connected to the case.
The case has been scheduled to be taken up again on October 14.
Rajapaksa was arrested by the CID as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering connected to the Airbus deal. The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
