Sri Lankan javelin star Rumesh Tharanga returned to the island this morning after securing the men’s javelin throw title at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Tharanga delivered a remarkable performance at the championship, producing a throw of 91.09 metres in his final attempt to claim the gold medal.
His victory marks a significant achievement for Sri Lankan athletics, as he defeated a field featuring some of the world’s leading javelin throwers.
Tharanga was warmly welcomed upon his return to Sri Lanka this morning following his outstanding international triumph.
