A nine-member selection committee comprising cinema experts will be appointed to select Sri Lanka’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2027, National Film Corporation Chairman Sudath Mahaadivulwewa said today.
He made the announcement at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department, saying the move marks a historic milestone following approval of a special request made to the Oscar organisers.
Applications will be accepted from August 24 to September 21, 2026, for films seeking to represent Sri Lanka in the International Feature Film category.Applications can be submitted via [email protected].
Following the closing of applications, the National Oscar Selection Committee of Sri Lanka (NOSCSL) will evaluate the submissions and vote to select the film considered most suitable to represent the country.
The selected film will be officially announced on September 28, 2026.
Mahaadivulwewa said the establishment of a dedicated selection process and committee would oversee the selection of Sri Lanka’s Oscar entry.
