India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reportedly signed three agreements with Sri Lanka during his ongoing three-day official visit to the country.
Singh met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake this morning (09) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
The Indian Defence Minister arrived in Sri Lanka for a three-day official visit, with a special reception held in Colombo yesterday (08) afternoon to welcome him.
The agreements cover cooperation between the National Cadet Corps of Sri Lanka and India, institutional ties between Sri Lanka’s National Defence College and India’s National Defence College in New Delhi, and maintenance support for air-defence systems operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Under the air-defence agreement, India will provide maintenance assistance for the remaining six 40mm L70 air-defence guns operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
India supplied 24 such systems to Sri Lanka between 2000 and 2006 and has previously carried out maintenance work on 18 of them.
The event was attended by several ministers, parliamentarians, governors, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, and a large number of Indian nationals residing in Sri Lanka.
