The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of strong lightning in several parts of the country.
According to the Department, strong lightning is likely to occur with thundershowers at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts, during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is possible at some locations in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts today.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and lightning.
