More than 100 acres of forest have been destroyed in a fire that broke out at the Hurulu Environmental Park Reserve in Habarana this afternoon (23).
The fire reportedly started at around 2:30 p.m. Forest Conservation officials said the blaze may have been deliberately set by hunters who had entered the forest.
Officers from the Forest Conservation Department and Wildlife Department jointly worked to control and extinguish the fire, according to the Habarana Police.
Habarana forest conservation officials and police are conducting investigations into the incident. No arrests have been made so far.
