Former President and current Member of Parliament Ranil Wickremesinghe has been officially summoned to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on April 28.

The summons relates to a statement Mr. Wickremesinghe is alleged to have made concerning Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake. While specific details regarding the nature of the statement have not been disclosed, sources close to the Commission indicated that it may have implications under anti-corruption statutes.

Mr. Wickremesinghe, who served as President of Sri Lanka until 2024, has not publicly responded to the summons as of yet. His legal team is expected to accompany him for the proceedings.

The Bribery Commission has intensified its inquiries into allegations involving high-ranking political figures in recent months, as part of a broader anti-corruption drive.
