Marking of postal votes for the upcoming local government elections officially commenced today, April 24, according to the Election Commission. Voters unable to mark their postal ballots today will have additional opportunities on April 25, 28, and 29.

In a special arrangement, a dedicated postal voting center has been established at Kandy Girls' High School to accommodate police officers assigned to special duties during the Sri Dalada Maligawa pilgrimage. The move aims to ensure that officers on religious security assignments are not deprived of their voting rights.

Meanwhile, tri-service officers have also been given the opportunity to mark their postal votes at their respective military bases, ensuring convenience and security for service personnel.

The local government elections are scheduled to be held on May 6, with the Election Commission emphasizing the importance of ensuring all eligible postal voters have ample opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
