Sri Lanka Railways has announced the suspension of special train services from Colombo Fort to Kandy starting today.April 24, until further notice. The decision comes following a request made by the Sri Lanka Police due to overwhelming crowds gathered for the public exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Earlier today, the Police advised the public to refrain from traveling to Kandy for the ‘Siri Dalada Wandanawa’ on April 24 and 25, citing safety concerns and overcrowding. Over 300,000 devotees are already in line to pay homage, prompting authorities to urge others to consider visiting on alternate dates.
Police emphasized that due to the excessive number of pilgrims already present, additional arrivals will not be able to complete their veneration. As a result, both the Police and Sri Lanka Railways are urging the public to delay their visit to avoid unnecessary congestion and ensure public safety.
Devotees are requested to cooperate with these measures and to stay updated on further announcements from the relevant authorities.
