
Showers and thundershowers expected across Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating showers and thundershowers across various parts of the island today.
According to the forecast, Western, North-western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, will experience showers or thundershowers at times throughout the day. In other regions, rainfall is expected mainly after 1.00 p.m.
Residents are warned of fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as Polonnaruwa and Puttalam districts.
Misty conditions are likely in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, and the Ampara district during morning hours
Showers and Strong Winds Expected Around the Island Over the Next 24 Hours
The Meteorology Department has issued a marine weather forecast warning of unstable weather conditions around the island over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers are expected in several sea areas, with a higher likelihood off the coast from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Other sea areas around the island may also experience evening or nighttime thundershowers.
Wind Conditions:
Winds will predominantly be westerly or south-westerly, with speeds ranging between 25-35 kmph. However, gusts may reach up to 45 kmph in the sea regions extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Sea Conditions:
Sea areas off the coasts from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai and Matara to Pottuvil may turn fairly rough at times. All other surrounding sea areas are expected to remain slight to moderate.
Mariners are advised to remain cautious, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
