Committee appointed to review Easter Sunday Attacks report

The report, along with its accompanying volumes, was officially handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on April 20.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Asanga Karawita has been named as the chairman of the committee, according to Police Media Spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddika Manatunga. The other members include:
Deputy Inspector General of the CID
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department
Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID)
Addressing a media briefing, SSP Manatunga confirmed that several subcommittees have also been formed under the main committee to meticulously study the comprehensive report, which spans approximately 66,000 to 67,000 pages.
“These subcommittees are currently analyzing the documents in detail. Based on the new facts that come to light, fresh investigations will be initiated,” Manatunga stated. He further emphasized that legal action will be taken against individuals found responsible, as determined by the findings.
The move signals a renewed effort by the government to ensure accountability and justice in the wake of the tragic 2019 attacks, which claimed over 250 lives and injured hundreds more.
