Police warns public about fake letter circulating on social media

In an official statement, the Police emphasized that the document is entirely fabricated and contains misleading, legally baseless language. Written in English, the letter attempts to mimic official communication by incorporating emblems similar to the Sri Lanka State Emblem, the Supreme Court Emblem, and the official Police logo.
"The use of these symbols and the formal tone of the letter appear to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and lend the document an air of legitimacy," the Police stated.
The letter also references a fictitious institution, the “Cyber Crime Headquarters Colombo, Sri Lanka,” which authorities have confirmed does not exist. According to the Police, this is part of a broader effort to discredit the institution and spread misinformation among the public.
The Police are urging citizens to be cautious and to verify the authenticity of official communications through proper channels. They also warned that legal action will be taken against those found responsible for creating or distributing the forged document.
Investigations are currently underway to identify the source of the fake letter and any parties involved in its dissemination.
