A high-level red alert has been declared for the following districts: Mannar, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Matale, Batticaloa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ampara, Moneragala, and Hambantota.
According to the Meteorology Department, atmospheric disturbances are expected to cause heavy rainfall accompanied by intense lightning and thunderstorm activity in these regions.
