Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been summoned by the Bribery Commission to appear on April 25 to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption by former Uva Province Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake.

Mr.Wickremesinghe was previously called to appear before the Commission on April 17, but the session has now been rescheduled.

The investigation centers on allegations that Dassanayake unlawfully withdrew fixed deposit accounts maintained in a state bank before their maturity during his tenure in 2016, causing potential financial losses to the state.

The Bribery Commission seeks to determine whether any directives or involvement from higher political authorities influenced the premature withdrawal of these funds.
